No, we haven’t gone mad. We know there’s no rainforest in Yorkshire. The Yorkshire Rainforest Project is our family business’s commitment to save 1.5 million hectares of rainforest – an area the size of Yorkshire – from destruction. It’s a huge undertaking and will take years, perhaps decades.
We’ve a long history of environmental campaigning. Twenty years ago we launched our Trees for Life appeal and pledged to plant one million trees around the world. We reached our original target in 1999 and carried on, planting our three millionth tree two years ago. At that point we turned our attention from planting trees to saving them and launched our Yorkshire Rainforest Project.
To start our campaign we’ve joined forces with the Rainforest Foundation UK to save an area larger than the Yorkshire Dales in Peru’s Amazon rainforest – one of the most threatened rainforests on the planet. But we can’t do it on our own – we need our customers to help.
