Coffee isnt just a good pick-me-up in the daytime.
It’s also an excellent ingredient in evening drinks, where its punch gives an extra dimension to a number of cocktails.
There’s the classic espresso martini, of course, but it also works beautifully with the bitterness of tonic.
With the help of our friends at Portobello Road Gin, here are two ways to turn your Taylors coffee into something with an extra kick.
Colombian Espresso Martini
COLOMBIAN ESPRESSO MARTINI
1 Taylors Cacao Superior espresso capsule shot
10ml vanilla syrup
10ml Mr Black coffee liqueur
Garnish: 3 whole coffee beans
Shake all ingredients with ice in a cocktail shaker, pour into a coupette glass and garnish.
Degraves Gin & Tonic
40ml Portobello Road Gin
25ml Taylors Degraves coffee, cold brewed
1 bottle tonic water
Garnish: dehydrated lemon, cocoa nibs, lavender spears
Build all ingredients in a gin goblet with ice cubes and garnish.
To make the cold brewed coffee, mix 1 part ground coffee with 8 parts water with water in a jar or other container, stir gently, cover and allow to brew for 18-24 hours (in or out of the fridge). Strain into a bowl through a fine sieve.
